Sunday, September 7, 2008

We left Beijing  and it was the usual 30degree heat we decided to catch a flight as there was only a few pound difference in the price also in time we saved a day, when we arrived in shanghai it was very cold 23degrees and raining ( wasent expecting that ) we queued up for a taxi and we were the only two  non chinese people for as far as the eye could see, so you can imgine  that we were gettingthe usual stares. eventualy we jump in to a taxi and he takes us to  Colin and Yannis place we  were given instructions and it was dead easy.
That evening Yanni cooked us some amazing food, we then braved the city for a few beers and some how found on the third floor in some random building an amazing bar with proper music ,pool table and  football table, we then headed off to enjoy the city lights from the apartment.
The next day we decided to walk to a place called "The Bund" it didnt look very far but it took most of the day to get there, on the way we walked through an area called the french prosession, here all the buildings are 1930s and the streets are lined with trees which is really to see in sush a large city.
on route we slightly lost and end up walkig down a market street it was so hectic made worse by the fact that the road was stil open and there were buses driving down as well a the usual guys on motorbikes.
we eventualy get to the bund at about 3pm and it was heaving with peope trying to take pictures across the huge river we decide to go across to the other side via somthing called a tourist tunnel, we book our tickets and head off down an escalator to where the tunnel begins, here we find waiting for us i a small glass carridge about 8ft long by 4 ft wide , we get in side and we set off down the tunnel, in side the tunnel were loads of flashing lights and strange patters shown on the walls this was one of those " disco boat moments" i grabed the camera and started to film the whole thing, ( i will post this video and i hope that you wil be able to see it ) when we get to the other side we are amazed as to how much quieter it was especcially as this side had a better view, we waited around until it was dark so we could see it lit up.
We then headed back to get some dinner, Colin recomended a place called bones,so we went. The  table had a huge hoe in the middle with a hob underneath!, when chosing your food half of it comes out early in a huge bowl and is thwn cooked on the hob, in side this pot is noodles, some vegetables and of course bones, big bones. The idea is that when ll the veg is cooked the bones are also ready, ( ready for what i hear you say ) well when you are given your plates and chop sticks you are also given a straw. So when the bones areready the marrow inside has gone gooey, so you push your straw down into the middle of the bone and then suck outall the bone marrow.
