Today is a special day because it is Jessica's birthday!
This morning started with the (by now normal) routine of feeding the dogs. I am completely amazed by them. They really are amazing animals and they are exceptionally friendly. Some of the dogs don't like their food in a bowl and prefer to have it tipped out on the ice!
After breakfast we harnessed up the dogs and were off. The trail was across soft deep snow which is much more difficult to manage. As a result a few people in our group spent some time face first in the snow.
After a while were out on a big frozen lake. It was quite an experience because the wind was blasting the snow across the surface of the lake, causing a haze of fine snow blowing across the lake. The dogs love is because they get covered in a layer of snow!
All the while I could not help marvelling at the unspoilt beauty around me. The sky was beautifully clear and the world was as it should be - complete unspoilt.
We had lunch at a small "resort" on an island on the lake. It consisted of a Sami tent and a toilet. Milosh made his famous salmon soup which was great given that the temperature had dropped to less than minus 5!
Sadly I can't include photos now, but I got some great shots.
Eventually we arrived at our overnight camp which is a basic log cabin in a remote area.
I'm having a great time and will finish this entry now because I'm almost asleep!
