Where I stayed

When I got to Pattaya, I wanted to stay at the Apex hotel, but there were no vacancies.  I did see a sign for a buffet for 100 baht in the lobby restaurant.  So I was determined to make the buffet one of my two things I was, for sure, going to do today.  It was conveniently around the corner from my hotel.  There were eggs, any style, bacon, sausage, pancakes, what ever you wanted.  They also had fruits, salads, and Thai food.  I had a bit of everything.  No wonder Americans are gluttons.  There wasn't a Thai person there besides the usual Thai girlfriend with her customer.

After eating, I walked to a local tour person and asked how much to the floating market.  She said 600 baht for the 1/2 hour taxi ride.  Based on the Gibbon tour, I figure I could find a better deal on my own and I did.  I found a taxi for 400 baht round trip.  When I got there, I expected to be floating down a river visiting different stands selling goods. But instead, the Floating Markets were only little huts lifted out of the water on stilts.  There were people in canoes selling food on the water, but that's about it.

I walked around for a bit.  I bought a fresh squeezed orange juice drink, ice cream, and a flavored shaved ice.  The rest of the goods being sold were the normal touristy stuff.  I didn't buy anything because I didn't want to carry it in my bag.  I knew I was going to buy my gifts in Chiang Mai, my last stop.  There were some good places to eat there and you sit on the floor, but I wasn't hungry.  I was some what freak out looking at the monk statues.  There looked so life like.  Remember the movie about the wax museum.  Gross.  So the Pattaya Floating Market....not real cool.  There was an elephant, but it was chained up and looked neglected.  I didn't even want to take a picture of it because I felt so bad for it.

I got back on the taxi and heading to the beach.  I wanted to find the place I sat at yesterday because the fellow was so nice.  His name was Wat and he basically befriended me.  I determined this was going to be a lazy beer and beach day.  I had lunch and dinner there and got ate by fire ants in the mean time.  I took a video of those bastards.  I look down and one foot was covered.  It was weird because they didn't start biting until my foot had lots of them on it.

I people watched the rest of the day.  I took pictures of all the Farang (Westerner) with their dates and a video of an old guy negotiated a deal with a deaf Thai prostitute.  Now, some of the couples could be true couples, but not the majority of them.

I met Dennis later that night.  His friend, and I can't remember her name, joined us for beers.  She was a prostitute too, but I guess she wasn't working hard that night.  Dennis even tried to ask if I wanted her for the night.  Douche bag.  After I told her I was going to Phuket, she told me she had a friend, named Pam that was going as well.  She was going to see a friend there.  She called her friend and I met Pam later that night.  We made plans to travel together in a couple of days.  Umm, I wasn't sure what career field she was in, so I confirmed with her I wasn't paying her to come with me.  I figure it would be nice and helpful to have a local in your back pocket.  She gave me a tour of Pattaya beach and took me to Walking Street, where all the go go bars and clubs are at.  Did I mention all the massage parlors around?  Some with and without happy endings, you just can't tell.  I didn't go into any of the bars because I started getting blisters on my feet so I called it a night.
