I rushed through Peru so as to give me a bit of time in Ecuador to try and book a trip to the Galapogus for when my bro turned up the following month. Maybe ill head back to Peru one day as 2.5 weeks might not have done it justice, but then all i got out of it was possible stomarch parasites, so perhaps not!
Anyway, i left Mancora really early in the morning and jumped on a bus to the border, which was the only time ive actually been hassled by wankers during my whole trip. Nothing serious, just trying to make an easy buck. I headed to a city called Guayaquil which is the biggest in Ecuador and situated on the banks of a river quite close to sea level. In a way it reminded me of Buenos Aires as it was damn hot and humid and parts of the centre just seemed to have that feel to them. However, it is of course nowhere near as great as BA, and also a distinct lack of hostels, or at least i didnt find any.
I spent 2 nights there in a crappy hotel, where $25 got stolen from my room by a cleaner (no biggy, probably thought id left it on my bed as a rather large tip). Had a walk around the place including the recent nice waterfront development, and up a hill to see `el faro` (remember?). During those few days it was quite weird as i dont think i spoke a word of english the whole time, and it was nice to head off to the beach again and bump into a few gringos again!
