Well, I'm back in Hong Kong after becoming lost in Macau. It's still rainy and I'm going home tomorrow.
OK...so I wandered around Macau as soon as the rains let up a bit. First it just seemed like any other urban center and I wasn't too impressed. Then I finally made it to the old part of the city and I loved it. Many of the cobblestone streets were limited to pedestrian use.
Macau has a much older feel to it than Hong Kong and it's a much different place. It seems like they take pride in their history and do their best to preserve it. I wandered up a hill where there were remains of an old Portuguese church and fort
Of course, upon exiting the museum it started pouring rain again. I gave in and bought an umbrella. I set off in the direction I thought I had to go, but got lost again. The streets were all twisty and turny and narrow and I couldn't make out any landmarks. And then there was the rain obscuring the views and the cloud cover. Lost again. I could blame it on my poor navigational skills, but I prefer to blame it on the rain.
Judging by the headway I was making by walking, I had no chance of making it back to the ferry pier in time for my boat at this rate. I gave up and hailed a taxi.
