Today we were up and at the ferry terminal in Sassnitz Germany, as in yesterday's blog, this is the area where the ferries crooss the Baltic to several other boarding countries. I had pre-bought our tickets , so we had no trouble entering and getting our boarding pass. We were assigned lane #6 and not finding it we assumed that the lines separated after boarding. Well. you know what tey always say about assumptions!!!!! After waiting in the car for about a half an hour we decided to take a walk around. On the way back we noted that several of the cars had signs saying RONNE on them and all the cars were German. Deciding to ask someone, Bruce approached a young fellow asking if this was the freey to Trellborg, Sweden and............. He said NO! We hurried to the car realizing we were in the wrong departure area and the ferry was leaving in about 10 min. We found the correct area and low and behold there WAS a lane #6 DUH!!! Don't you think 2 college educated adults could of figured that one out. Well, we arrived safe and sound on the ferry, locked up the Europa-mobile and headed out to the passenger area Circus in Sassnitz
Circus in Sassnitz
. An interesting thing about this ferry, it also carries trains. As I said I had pre-bought our tickets and didn't realize that you did not have to purchase a cabin. Well, having purchased it we decided to check it out and what a surprise. All it was, was a set of SMALL bunkbeds with no window or anything else in the cabin. We returned outside, had lunch and watched Germany fade into the distance. We were finally headed to my homeland of Sweden. It was quite interesting watching the chalk cliffs and little villages, but as soon as we were deep into the baltic sea there was nothing left to see. We decided to return to the below deck hole and take a nap to prepare ourselves for the drive ahead.
What a relief it was to arrive in Sweden and be able to actually read the road signs, be able to communicate our needs and carry on a conversation with someone! We drove a bit more than half way to Stockholm to a town called Jönkshöping (yan-sherping). There we started looking for a hotel. Seeing a Comfort Inn on the side of the road we decided to stay. Being exhausted, we did not even ask the price of the room. We grabbed the small overnight stay prepared suitcase and headed for the elevator. Arriving on the 12th floor of a perfectly round hallway, in a perfectly round hotel. We opened the door and were amazed that they could fit a double sized bed into the room, say nothing about the double murphy bed on the wall! It must be where the Swedish Trolls stay, because that's all it was big enough for! The most interesting aspect of the room was, you could lay in bed and watch your partner taking a shower through a window. Well I guess it's all part of the sexual reveloution in Sweden! Oh well who cares, the beds were comfortable, which was a good thing because that one nights stay cost us almost $200.00!!!! Just a nudge to remind ourselves to ask the price or else go on line before we stay somewhere. On to another day of travel tomorrow.
