Wow, Hong Kong, 'Asia's World City' you are told as you exit passport control.
It seem's like only yesterday I was sitty by the beach eating scrambled eggs on toast. Oh it was. It's been a hectic 24 hours.
The boat and Train Journey were firly uneventful, althouygh again sat on the front of the boat although it's getting boring for you is still a great way to pass three hours. The overnight sleeper was bad, I just couldn't sleep and so when we arrived in Bangkok at 5;20 this morning I wasn't rested and there was no prospect of me getting any for at least another 12 hours. I was in the airport for 6 and downing coffe by the bucket load 10 minutes later.
I hdn't bothered to onfirm my flight, OK, I forgot to reconfirm my flight and the office foe Kenya Airlines didn't open until 9:30 so I bummed around on the internet chatting to Steve Eliis who was at work. Hi Steve.
To cut a long story short i sorted it all out but still couldn't change my flight to Aus as the bloody quantas office didn't open until 9am Sydney time!!!
Boarded the flight and everyone stared at me as the only 'white' face on the plane, a bloke had stolen my window seat but as I had emergency exit leg room for the first time in my life I wasn't complaining and i didn't want to make a fuss.
Flight was great, good green curry and a G&T dozed a little bit and we touched donw at the airport around 4pm local time, now 7 hours ahead Mum and Dad. The airport is pretty amazing and it must be one of the best approaches in the world for any of you who have had the privalidge.
I jumped on the bus and sat and took in the amazing views and high rises during the 40 minute journey. As with NYC I have a feeling I will spend alot of the next five days looking up.
I found the Dragon Hostel a little tricky to locate. I found the road, Argyle Street, eventually after asking a few street vendors, some of whom didn't know it even though they were trading on it, but 83 Argyle Street seemed to be the largst concentration of Mobile phone shops on the planet. Oh the Irony (I think that's irony). Turned out I needed a different entrance and so releived I headed for the 7th floor to be met buy several members of the family who run the place, very friendly indeed. the room's alittle pokey but at only $200 a night it's good I think.
The currency has freaked me out a bit after the Bhat, I saw a Guinnes advertised for $80 in the airport which seem's mad, it is eight quid!!
someone just mentioned Dawsons Creek....
The first thing I did was trim the beard right back. Yes that's right, the beard 'what beard' had called 'A great beard 3 stars' has been trimmed back to a sexy george clooney, Er years, stubble.
Then I planned my day tomorrow before heading out to find some dumplings. Ive started eating pretty much anything I liked the look of, so after a ten minute walk I was ready to try anything that looked remotely 'street' and so I did. It turned out to be shit, a couple of chicken ings and some fries down the bottom. There was some tasty fishy thing but I think that might be the reason I'm running between the keyboard and the loo!!
I eventually foun some amzing Dumplings and ndered down the market which went on forever, there's loads of stuff to buy, the whole of south east aisa is obsessed with shopping after dark, there are hardly any tourists, it's just people buying stuff. There's Osama Bin Laden T-shirts, George Bush optional.
One of the strange things was peopl buing puppies that were stored in glass boxes, a sign said 'No photo video' presumbly because If i had got footage I'd have set up a stall in sheffield town centre getting pople to sign petition. It seemed very druel.
I wandered around for ags, theres so much to see, so much neon. I bought another battery for the camera for about 15 quid and jut kept walking. I headed bck towards the hostel around 9pm and having caught the season 2 finale of Smallville I came over here to update you all. I'll get some pictures posted when I get the chance.
Feel like I lost to plot bit with this entry, thought I had much more to say. Hand is improving every day!!
Peace,
Oliver.
