Konye-Urgench is famous for being relatively untouched since Chinggis and his horde ransacked it several hundred years ago. The bad news is that there are restorations underway, the good that they appear far from complete. There were a few mausoleums, central asia's tallest minaret (with a precarious looking lean to it), and some still-incomplete excavations. At the latter site there were some recently excavated tombs, and indeed we could see human remains all over the place. It made the site's history of destruction (the town was attacked 5 times before the Mongols came) palpable.
