We thought that the airport had no air conditioning because it was soooo hot! But, when we got outside it was even hotter..it just hits you like a wall, and its been really hot ever since! We wasted little time and got to the hotel so that we could get ready and go for a drink or 5. The hotel is really good especially considering how much we paid for it. The only downside is that things in the hotel are overpriced, but theres a shop opposite thats cheap as chips.
The first night we went to Ko San road, which is the main travellers bit
After all the drinking we decided that we ought to do a bit of culture too so we went to Wot Poh..which is a temple in Bangkok which is home to the worlds largest reclining budha! Also within the temple grounds is the thai massage school..so we thought it'd be good to have one. It was only 180bht which is bout 3 quid for 30 mins. I'm still not quite sure if i feel any better after it. Is was the strangest combination of pleasure and pain...some bits really painful!
The locals are always smiling but thats probably because they want to try and sell you something. Especially the tuk-tuk drivers who try to take you to different places as to where you want to go because they get commission for taking you to certain bars/clubs. We've been to a few thai nightclubs too, but there is a tendancy to treat the white people like kings, with your own 'waiter' for the night and people trying to massage ur back whilst you go to toilet. Other good bar we went to was the hard rock cafe where we drunk B52s and a few more beers
We'd heard about a good nightclub called bed, so last night we decided to give it a try. We got there and on the wall was a notice saying that you must show international passport or government id to get in! We thought we'd be screwed because neither of us had ouir passports. Moss and Andy were ok because they had their driving license with them. I showed my fake, expired uni card and the let me in with that! Couldn't beleive it!
Inside its clear to see why its called Bed. There were no chairs just huge beds all the way around the room, with cool funky house playing. We had a few more beers here and got speaking to 2 Brits, Rob & Ruth, who have been living here for the past 2 months. They invited us to a 'lock-in' further up the street. We went along and had a really good night. They wised us up about how much to pay and what to see and do, because basically we'd been geting a bit ripped off up until now. After that we headed off back to the hotel for more drinks and food in the bar resulting in going to bed at 6 am!!
Today we were getting a little tired of all the chinese/thai food and we all had a carving for some fries. So we managed to find a KFC
Its now our last night in Bangkok and its absolutely pi**ing it down! We're a little worried because we're not entirely sure where we're going next or exactly how we're gonna get there. ;-/ But i reckon we'll head south to some of the islands...anywhere to breath some fresh clean air!
To sum Bangkok up in a few words;
Hot, cheap, humid, smelly, busy, crazy place (crazy in a good way)! lol
Got to go figure out how to travel outta this place now, ill keep ya updated!
