Shimla is very popular with Indian tourists for the same reason it was popular with the British; it offers the novelty of being able to don a sweater in July. As some of the few white people in Shimla, we were popular photo subjects. We spent two nights in Shimla at the Hotel Victory, delayed slightly by my developing Delhi belly. We visited the Jakhu Temple, dedicated to Hanuman the monkey God. We were warned by signs on our way up the hill to remove our glasses and sunglasses to avoid having them snatched by the macaques that are residents of the temple. We met one unfortunate Indian tourist who had fallen victim. We spent what must have been a couple of hours sitting in the main town square near the colonial era Christ Church, just watching the colorful people. The police wore some kink of cloth topknot that made them look like puffed up roosters.
On the second morning, we caught a "luxury" long-distance bus to Kullu.
