Noosa and the not so sunny coast
Entry 14 of 18 | show all | print this entry |
Hi everyone
I realise its been months since i last wrote in my blog, ive had so many emails asking what ive been up too and if im still alive. well the truth is i havent really been up to much... last time i wrote i was on the gold coast working in the hostel where i was living and also working in a cafe overlooking the beach. thats pretty much what ive been doing for the last 3 months, trying uncessfully to save money. all i can say is that i had the time of my life in that place and it absolutely killed me to have to leave it. i made some wonderful friends and made memories there that will last a lifetime. went to all the theme parks, hit up the clubs in surfers paradise, learnt to surf, met the top 45 professional surfing champs at the roxy pro tournament, hiked springfield national park, swam in a natural ice cold waterfall (soooo cold but had to be done) and of course when there was nothing else to do i relaxed on the beach opposite from where i was living. weather was nice most of the time but now thats its autumn here its getting distinctly chilly in the evenings. eventually tho, i did get itchy feet and whilst i didnt want to give up my room and cushy job, i had too otherwise i would have stayed there for the rest of my time in oz and i wouldnt see everything i wanted too. so on monday i packed up all my stuff (considerably more than when i arrived) and headed up on the bus to the sunshine coast about 3 hours north to a small town called maroochydore. my main purpose of being here was to visit australia zoo, home of the crocodile hunter. it was an awesome day and i even got to hand feed an elephant. and watching the croc show was unbelievable, dont know how the croc handlers dare to get to close to their mouths. theres also a massive tribute wall to steve irwin, just lined wtih sighed khaki shirts and pictures and flowers etc, was nice to have a read of some of them.
it was only a brief stop in maroochydore tho because today i headed up to noosa which is absolutely beautiful. and after the dreadful weather (torrential rains and flooding) we've had over the last week its nice to see some sunshine.much warmer up here than the gold coast although its only a 3 hour drive apart. on friday im meeting up with a friend and we're headed out to the noosa everglades national park for a 3 day 2 night kayaking safari. its all a bit up in the air at the moment tho cos of all the rain, last week some groups had to be evacuated and last week they closed the national park for sleeping overnight cos of rising water levels. so whatever happens we'll still get a full days kayak on the river even if we dont get to sleep under the stars, we'll stay at their bush camp if not! so thats about it for now, ill keep you updated on the river trip, next stops are rainbow beach, hervery bay and fraser island before heading to bundaberg to get a fruit picking job to earn some much needed funds love to everyone, hope your well hollie xxxxxxx
