I got up very early this morning, because I don't have a life and it's easy to do so.  Plus, I like being awake early on Friday mornings.  No one's ever awake, and you can walk around in the middle of the highway if you like.  Now is the appropriate space to make a few remarks about why no one is awake, and what condition they are in...but I wouldn't want to offend anyone because after all, this is an Islamic city.  Ha!

All irony aside, I decided to go out to Abu Dhabi.  I had a hunch it was going to be lackluster...maybe part of the reason I felt that way was because of the sandstorm.  I don't know if "sandstorm" is a very good word for it, it was blowing dust.  The Arabs have a word for it.  English doesn't.  That's the thing about English; it didn't originate in a desert, so we don't have basic distinctions about different deserty conditions.  So I've made up my own word for it; I call it a Dusty Gusty.  And our Dusty Gusty looked pretty much the way things look when we have snowstorms--blowing and dancing on the ground, and approaching near white-out conditions at times on the highway.

Things didn't get better in Abu Dhabi.  I wanted to go to the Bedouin Village, so I thought I'd just take a taxi, only the taxis just seemed shady to me, so I didn't get in.  That, and none of the drivers seemed to know where this place was.  Would have taken a bus, but I couldn't figure out the system.  In all, I stood there for two hours trying to get to the Village, getting increasingly dusty and aggravated.  Finally this bus pulled up and I got on, only to get kicked off right away.  You'll never guess what happened then--and I'm so embarrassed to admit it!--I started crying!  It was so frustrating!  It was at that point I decided to just go home.

So I walked across the city back to the Dubai Bus, with tears streaming down my face, and not one person stopped to say anything nice to me.  I reckon Abu Dhabi has a conspiracy against Little Liz.  Lamest day-trip EVER.

And when I got home, there was sand in my ears.  The End.
