Here's something you never thought you'd hear me say here:

Today was chilly and rainy and overcast. I thought I was only passing through London in order to get to Dubai, but it appears that the London weather has followed me. Apparently, this is getting to be a problem. This winter alone, as I understand from our orientation leader Liz, Dubai has received about 12 cm of rain, when the normal average is only just 3 cm.

It's happening guys, it really is happening.

On the brighter side, I went to buy a few basic necessities last night, which is something I ought to have done, like, a week ago when everyone else did. I went to the WalMart of Dubai, Carrefour, and it was pretty much one of the zaniest shopping experiences ever. First, when I walked into the restrooms in the mall, there was this woman puking in the stall next to me. Yippee! As to actually pushing a cart through the store itself, just try to imagine the traffic in New York City, only there are no lanes or rules to the road, and it is rush hour. Then, add a bunch of obstructions, like shoe bins, and set it all in a WalMart where the spatial proportions are twice what they normally are, and that's pretty much what my shopping experience was like. Luckily, I tend to be fairly aggressive in lines or crowds, so this posed no problem for me--but this chaos is, of course, not to everyone's taste. Like you, for instance, Mom. Heads up.
