Dear Friends,

Today we went to the Old City.  We went on what is called the Rim Walk.  It is a path that is on the Old City wall.  It runs from the Jaffa Gate around to the Lions Gate, which is about half way around the Old City.  We walked on the parapit of the wall.  From the top of the wall you can see both into the Old City and out to the current city.  The Old City is divided into four quarters: The Muslem Quarter(the largest), The Christian Quarter, The Jewish Quarter and The Armenian Quarter.  When we came to the west side of the city and looked out to the Mt. of Olives I was looking at the same place that Jesus came down the hill and into Jerusalem.  The buildings are new but the land is the same.  Some soldier on that wall most likely was standing looking at the event of Palm Sunday and did not know what he was seeing or its importance.  I hope that because of that event of Palm Sunday and Easter we, unlike the soldier, may be able to see other evidences of God around us and recognize them and their importance.

How cool ...
it must be to look out on the Mt. of Olives and imagine Jesus walking into Jerusalem! Your entry and photos prompted me to do a little internet surfing and I found a map of the old city showing the walls and the locations of the different quarters. Being a walker, I was wondering what kind of distance that is, to go from the Jaffa Gate to the Lions Gate. Is it a couple miles? Five? Ten? Just curious. Another question ... (I hadn't stopped to think about it until seeing the comment about reading the road signs in yesterday's post)... is there much of a language barrier? Do a lot of the people speak English? Are most things written in Hebrew and/or Arabic? So much that I don't know!

Hope your move-in goes smoothly. Your street looks so quaint. Love reading your updates and seeing the pictures. Thanks for taking the time to do that!

Blessings,
Cindy

Dear Cindy,
The distance is about 1&1/2 to 2 miles. You also take the rim walk from Jaffa to the Dung gate which is the other direction. We have walked about 15 miles in the last three days- all destination walks. Most of the people that want to sell you something speak enought english. Most of the signs are in Hebrew or Arabic but enought are in english so you can tell what street you are on.
