Dear freinds,
As we left the hotel this morning, we were greeted by sunshine and a real coolness to the air. Michael had the map in his pocket and had hopes that it would stay there until we really needed it. We have been paying close attention to landmarks each day that we have walked since reading and understanding the road signs has been difficult. Our destination was to find Ben Yehuda Street. This is a very popular gathering place for young people with unique shops and small places that sell everything from hotdogs to falafels. It is strictly a pedestrian street and set up with tables, chairs and other places to sit. On one corner near there, we came upon a department store where they were having their large "Snow Days Sale". Snow rarely falls in Jerusalem, yet many people are dressed for it. The prices of merchandise and food are extremely high here. We also found the small market that our landlady recommended to us for our daily shopping. It will be quite a "laughing matter" come Monday when we have to figure out what we are buying and what it costs! With all the "open air" meat markets, I have decided to stick with the fruits and veges. Michael's on his own with the meat!
We enjoy the messages that many of you have sent to us. They will become all the more important as our stay lengthens. May God be with you all and He is with us.
In Christ, Jolene and Michael
