Its latest the best part of 51 weeks on the road, being used most days...on off on off...drunken nights out...beeches, rain storms, thrown about in bus rides, viruses from Internet cafes. Today was the day my camera died!!!

Good job I had my diving camera, so I could capture my final Buddha. Yes after months of them my last Buddha. This one is one the oldest and most famous in the world.

In this ancient city Polonnaruwa center piece is a large rock with three Buddhas carved into it, one sitting, one standing and one sleeping.

The city itself was much bigger than I expected. Originally the plan was to get a bike and cycle around, however when I rocked up at the bus stop a local tuk tuk driver offered to drive me around, avoiding the security so he could pocket the money for the entry, rather than the government. Seemed like a good deal to me, because I also got a free ride!!!

The site also contains large stuppas, more Buddhas, fresco's (rock paintings) and mile of ruins!!

The place also has wild life...I saw a nasty looking snakes and some monkeys that I hadn't seen on my travels. These large grey and black face fellas were big!! Also no as cheeky as some of the brown little monkeys.

The other good thing for me, bad thing for the locals is that the site was empty of tourists. mostly due to the civil war problems not far away in the north of lanka.

So 3 hours later, I jumped on another local bus to Sigiriya. There I met Madu, English living, Lankan and the brilliant flower inn ran by her sister and mother. More like a family house than a guest house. That night we chatted away and took photos of the weird bugs, listening to the monkeys and iguanas run around on the roof!!
