I was sad to leave Cuzco after a great week there, but more places to see so on would with my travels.....
A 7 hour bus journey took me Puno on the Peru shore of Lake Titicaca. The bus company in cuszo had advertised a direct bus, not to much surprise I had to wait three hours in the freezing cold bus station and the bus was another hour picking up passengers in Puno.
Finally I reached the Bolivian border, one of the most relaxed borders I have got two. You could simply wonder across if you wanted!!!
10mins after the border was Copacabana another shore town.
Here I meet up with Matt after leaving him in Costa Rica. I was pretty shattered so decided to take it easy that night.
The following day it pissed it down with rain in the morning, so we decided to take an afternoon boat to the island of the sun in the middle of Lake Titicaca. The boat was comedy, more like a skoda with two small engines. The short distance took almost two hours and with the token 10 lifejackets, if anything happened we were toast.
Lake Titicaca is more like a sea, but due to the atitude its temperature is liek the north sea in the middle of winter. The lake is the highest in the world at 3000meters above sea level, with crystal clear blue water.
On the island we found bargin accomidation, 25 bolivias or less than 2 pound a might for great balcony views over the lake, a stunning sunset and clear star filled sky.
We woke up early ready for trek across the island, two hours later we arrived at Inca ruins and one of the last hide outs of the incas from the spanish. Along the way and back were amazing picture postcard views of the lake. The trek back took longer, but we did see some small fishing villages and more great views.
After missing the first boat and short of money, because the banks all shut on Mondays. We took another 2 hour boat back to the coast an onto La Paz, the highest capital in the world.
More atitude sickness for Matt!!!!!!
