Just got to Oaxaca after another over night bus journey.

This time I got little to no sleep due to travel sickness. Ive never exprienced anything lke this before and it was all down to the journey. The road took us through mountain passes and the bus driver had a death wish, driving so fast around corner with steep drop off the other side. Im just waiting for a room to become available now so I can have a couple of hours sleep before the world cup final. Then I think I{ll take a quick stroll around the town. I think the atmosphere will be a little strange here as there have been teachers protests and apparently the square is full of demostrators!

Day 2

OK so the teacher protests have simmered down now. The streets are full of people sleeping on the street and there is a alot of anti government graffitti. Whats great is the signs put up for tourists examplaining the problems and aplogises from the teachers for the mess. Aparently 6 people were killed and 15 missing. The police opened fire on peaceful protesters. Glad we weren{t around then.

Today we got a bus up to the first planned city in the Americas, Monte Alban. This is a site built by the zapotecs starting from around 400bc, very cool. The best aspect of the site is the setting, high up in the mountains with the clouds rolling across the valleys.

We got the bus up to the site, more winding roads and spent about three hours walking around. In the afternoon after a massive lunch in the Zocalo for only 2.50 we walked around the city. The best site here is the Santo Domingo Cathedral with its stunning carvings and golden ceilings.

We have decided to leave tonight for Villahermosa to see another crazy mexican civilisation that built massive heads, the Olmecs!!!! After booking our bus ticket we found that the town has hardly no hostels so we are going straight to Palenque the following night.
