So I left OZ a week earlier than planned and arrived in Kuta Bali.
Straight away I could tell I was back in a developing country, taxi drivers hassling me, some bloke trying to carry my bags. Denpensar airport is actually closer to Kuta and a short taxi drive to a cheap hotel I found in my LP.
Instantly I knew I was going to be able to save cash....2 pounds a night for my own room with breakfast (even if it had a cold shower and a hole in the ground)
My first day plan was to try and find a tour to Komodo...this I found was a bit of a struggle, due mostly to times of tours and costs. I therefore sacked it of and will have to one day return here to go to Komodo and some of the other islands like Flores and Lombok.
The afternoon, still tied I relaxed on the beech, which wasn't as nice as expected, especially after coming from Australia.
So maybe the nightlife would be better???? Well it was OK. I started in a bar full of old men and young Balinese women, the next bar I meet some Brits who were on my plane from OZ, so we got chatting and went to a club....the only club.
Again a bit disappointed. In all Kuta has really suffered because of the bombings here, the streets aren't full of tourist like over resorts I have been to and considering its only the end period of the Australian holiday I would expect more people to be here...looks like the terrorists have won in this area. I cant see the Ozzie's coming back soon especially when they have other areas such as Fiji and the other Pacific Islands of there door step.
Oh and by the way all the taxi drivers double up as drug dealers and pimps, some bloke even offered me his daughters for the night for 10 pounds. This was enough and i need of some culture I headed North to the hill town of Ubud.
