Wadi Rum

We meet with Renault and Myren the following morning who were taking us to Wadi Rum. The drive took about an hour. We got dropped outside Mohammed house, who was going to take us on the trip arranged by Fayez in Amman. Unfortunately he was not here but waiting at the visitor centre near by. We waited in his house with his wife until he arrived. His house was a basic brick building with camals and chickens out the back, his wife gave us mint tea and disappeared into their kitchen. Mohammed took us in his 4X4 across the desert. During our trip we visited natural springs and vast sand dunes, brightly coloured red. We also climbed up large rock structures and eat with the Bedouin in the desert; Wadi Rum was made famous as the base of Laurence of Arabia, before his Arab revolt on Aqaba. The most amusing event during our trip was Mohammed trying to get a signal on his mobile phone, often driven of the track and into sand dunes. The 4X4 would get stuck and we ended up pushing the truck. Around 4pm a huge sand storm started and we retreated to a Bedouin tent. The tent was large in size and held around 20 of us. The sand rained down and poured through gaps like rain. Here we meet an Irish and French family. We spent the rest of the night teaching the French children card games and talking.
