Petra - Day Two

We took a more leisurely look around this day. We got up late morning and made our way into the park, getting to the treasury at midday with the sun shinning down on the ruin in all its glory. On this day we spent a lot of time trekking around the park. Our first trek was before the Theatre on the left up to the place of high sacrifice, a place where goats and sheep were slaughtered to the Nabataean gods. We trekked down the opposite side of the mountain to hidden temples with hardly any tourists; here down in the side of the mountain is the carved figure of a lion where the blood of sacrificed animals flowed. We made friend with cats at this ruin and feed them egg I had taken from breakfast. We trekked around the back of mountain and across to where the assent to Monastery begins. Next to the assent is Al-Habis which was the prison of Petra. The assent was well worth it to the top, which had a ruined Crusader fort from the 12th Century. The views here are amazing over the whole park. We descended to the Great temple which is still being reconstructed. On the way back we went via the ruins of a small church on the left hand side and took our last view of Treasury. That night we meet up with a French couple which keenly offered to drive us to Wadi Rum the following day. We rang our guide for the following day.
