October 20
We spent the whole day in Philadelphia. We started at the Independence Hall. The Court Room had a cage where people who are charged with a crime stood to be judged. The only original item left in this room was a painting of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Coat of Arms. All other things are from the same time period.
The other room was the place where they signed the Declaration of Independence. Some of the original items in the room were a cane from Thomas Jefferson and the Chair that George Washington sat in when he presided over the room. The Chair had a sun engraved on it near the top. Benjamin Franklin didn't know if the sun on the chair was a rising sun or setting sun. After he thought about it he realized it was a rising sun because it was the start of the United States
We then saw the Liberty Bell. The bell was cast by John Pass and John Stow. It started with a thin crack but to fix the crack you have to make the crack wider. As they rang the bell again, it cracked again so they took it down. The Bell looks a lot smaller because I (Mitsie) thought it was going to be a lot taller.
We then went to Benjamin Franklin's grave site. We threw our loose change on the stone but some people had better aim than others and the coins landed on other grave markers.

Get ready for some snow!
Fifth Graders, Snow predicted for the mountains in Maine so perhaps you may get to see some flurries. I am so glad you saw Sheridan, she is such a sweet girl. She must have been thrilled to see her HMS friends! Remember, keep your eyes open for deer, there are plenty out in the woods. They camouflage well, so you need to have a keen eye. Moose are on the loose too, and you CAN'T miss these beasts. Their legs are like telephone poles. You get lucky and spot one of these magnificent creatures. Well, keep warm in the northeast. BURRRRR! Mrs. Toita
Have fun!
