Cont'd

Monticello was a 10 minute drive away. We toured Jefferson's house. Some of his inventions were: the copy writer - makes two copies in your own hand writing as you write the original, the dumb waiter which brought up food from the kitchen in the basement.

His clock was inside over the front door. There were three hands on the clock. They  told the hour, minutes and seconds. It also told the day of the week.

Some of us went to see the cemetery. His tombstone looked like a small version of the Washington monument. On it were his three greatest accomplishments: 1. Author of the Declaration of American Independence, 2. Author of the Statute of Virginia for Religious Freedom, and 3. Father of the University of Virginia.

I (Spencer) liked the dumb waiter because you don't have to go downstairs to get your food. I (Tanner) liked the copy writer.

The controversy about Jefferson was he had slaves even though he signed the Declaration of Independence which stated "All men are created equal".

It's cold!
Doesn't Mitsie have a jacket? If she doesn't, Lauren, let her use one of yours. Tony, please make sure the girls have a jacket before they leave the room. Love yuh, miss yuh -- Mama.
