Chilling in Fukuyama

Today we didn't really do very much. I think we were a little exhausted from the first week of our trip. We slept in very late, until almost 11. By the time we got up and got ready, we ate a quick lunch, and then went out with Mayumi to do some shopping around Fukuyama. First we went to a few craft/fabric stores, and then to a mall. The mall was interesting, and both Kirsten and I found some good souvenirs. We also had a snack of swirled green and brown tea-flavored ice cream. As it was getting late, we next went to the grocery store attached to the mall. It was a very nice store, and reminded me a little of Whole Foods. We helped Mayumi find foods for dinner, since we were going to be making tempura.
When we got back to Mayumi's house, we started the cooking process. Pieces of lotus root, mushrooms, and other vegetables were dipped into the tempura batter and fried. It was a delicious dinner!
We also got to know Mayumi's parents a little, despite the language barrier. They are very sweet and hospitable! More thumbnails ...
