Thursday, received an email from a fellow Melbourne expat suggesting we have a drink after work. "Sure," I say, "just one or two". And then some partners come down and keep buying us pints. Apparently "no" doesn't form part of my vocabulary. So we all know how this story ends! Heidi, polaxed, stumbling home from the train station and rolling in the door, flopping into my bed with a "I'm so drunk Gemma".
Friday was hard work. Really hard work. Especially after the mission home which took a total of 3.5 hours from door to door. One would've thought that a bus driver would let you know the bus isn't taking it's usual route and that you should probably get off and walk. Instead, I ended up what felt like miles away from home, with no map. I had to use all my willpower to stay on the side of the road I was on - there was a pub opposite the bus stop I was waiting at from which Ziggy (a friend from Contiki a couple of years ago) emerged, but due to poor vision I wasn't completely sure whether I should make a d*ck of myself by yelling out to him, just in case it wasn't actually him! Apparently I should've, because it actually was him! Random.
Much to the disappointment of the posse I was to attend with (and the Queen), I pulled out of Royal Ascot and forfeited my chance to rub shoulders with royalty. Alas, poverty and exhaustion have struck and I was forced into a kind of hibernation for the weekend.
I ventured to Clapham on Saturday to visit Nat at her new digs and had a few drinks to christen the new place and then made my way home (via the chicken man - I'm No. 2, Gemma's No. 1) and curled up in bed with my trusty chicken burger and chips and passed out watching Skins season 3. Not sure that the chilli sauce was a good idea after waking up with a start at 2am!
This week, not a whole lot happening, just work - which continues to be boring by the way - we work so very hard back home compared to what I'm doing here. Maria is heading home shortly so we'll be farewelling her this weekend with drinks at Clapham Common (I love being able to drink in public, just not sure the public love me drinking in public!).
Next weekend is bound to be a ripsnorter though: a trip to Bath with Nat and Gemma for my birthday. Will be booking Oktoberfest shortly as well yeehah!
It's hard to believe that at the end of this week I will have been here a month already.
Time really does fly when you're having fun!
