Upon arrival in Bordeaux last night, Franciose helped us to find a
cheap hotel to spend the night in, which was great as we were all
pretty tired after our long day. This morning we walked to the slip
way leading to the Bordeaux ring road in the hope of catching a lift
to Bayonne. After an hour and a half, a kind truck driver stopped and
offered us a lift to take us several junctions down the motorway, as
he doubted we would have much luck were we were standing currently.
After about half an hour he dropped us on a roundabout from where we
walked to a slip road. However, after about 45mins it became clear
that not much traffic was passing that way, so we decided to brave the
motorway and walk to the next junction-a 5km walk which left us all
pretty knackered and rather dehydrated as our water stocks were
running low.
Here Luck was definately on our side as after only 2 mins a Romanian
truck driver, who lives in and happened to be driving to Spain pulled
up. Max told us he had given another couple of Morocco hitchers a
lift last week, so when he had seen us waiting for a lift he exited
the motorway and did a circle in order to pick us up-what a legend!
Travelling with Max along the north of Spain we stopped to take off
his trailer then a few miles down the road went into Michelin. Here
Jennie and I had to hide from security whilst Alex and Max attached a
new trailer full of tyres! Later we stopped at a service station where
Max bought us dinner!! Cannot believe how nice and hospitable people
are over here! Sadly our time with Max is now over as he was heading
home for the weekend..and we are currently in a 24hr service station
waiting for the truckers to wake up which could be some time!
