We had a great drive from Meridian to Houston on the 24th. The Houston Visitor Center was really nice and had a boardwalk over a wetlands. Barry almost lost his foot to an alligator snapping turtle - fortunately it was just too slow for him.

Barry & I had several days of resting and mornings in the pool while Matthew was at class in the mornings and Lauryn was at work. Their apartment is in a very large complex with 11 pools. The street in front of the apartment is tree lined and very picturesque.

On Friday they treated us to "Taste of Texas." We celebrated Barry's birthday and Father's Day. They gave him a free dessert of white and chocolate mousse with raspberry sauce (called slice of Heaven), which I gladly ate after brunch the next morning. Lauryn & Matthew had fixed a wonderful brunch of eggs, rye toast, blueberries, white nectarine and orange danish.

On Sunday we went with Lauryn & Matthew to First Baptist Church. One of the assistant pastors spoke from the book of Joshua. The main point was that God uses ordinary people for extraordinary situations.

After church on Sunday we looked at possible houses for the Lauryn & Matthew & Carol & Benson Kelly. We looked at new and used homes in the Lake Houston area. It is a really pretty area.

On Monday Carol Kelly treated Lauryn & Karie to a pedicure and manicure. It was a lot of fun and felt SO good! The chair massage was wonderful!

On Wednesday Barry & Karie drove to Buffalo, TX (between Houston & Dallas) to meet Janet and JJ Good at Dickey's bar-b-q. It was 'good' visiting with my youngest cousin whom I hadn't seen since 1995. We also stopped to see the Sam Houston statue - very Texas size!

We also got to attend Lauryn & Matthew's Bible study on Wednesday evening.
On Friday Matthew and Karie went back up into the northeast area of Houston and looked at 6 different builders and some other homes for sale. It was a lot of fun and we learned a lot.
Lauryn and Karie had a date Friday evening at Gringo's. We had a lot of fun.
On Saturday evening we had a wonderful meal at Carol and Benson's home. Drew and his daughter Hailey were there, too. Drew did a great job at the grill. Everything tasted great and we had a wonderful time visiting.

On Sunday we got to visit with Lauryn and Matthew's Sunday school class on the 5th floor.. There are actually 7 floors in parts of the church.
Jason Swiggart spoke at First Baptist on Joshua 1:1-10 about facing your fears. We should "name the fear," "claim God's victory" (by spending time in God's word, obedience and praying, and reflecting), and "allowing other peoples' victories encourage us."
After church Lauryn & Matthew and Barry & Karie went to look at houses again. It really is a lovely area where they are looking.
Karie has been able to visit with Carol at First Baptist at lunch time. We've been playing "banana grams" which is a type of speed scrabble. It has been fun meeting people that Carol works with and to see how busy the church is during the week. They have so many activities going on all the time and Carol is in charge of the calendar for the church. She has been working there over 30 years!
Gotta have pictures of my two grandkitties, too.

We'll be leaving Houston August 13 and traveling on to Florida to visit with Karie's Aunt Jean and cousin Curtis and then finally back to Glen Allen the weekend of the 18th.
