Well hey, it took 4 hours to fly over Oz and then only another 3 to get to Kuala Lumpur. I knew it was big, but the desert just seemed to go on for ever and ever.
Anyway, I'm now back in Asia and after the initial culture shock (which lasted all of about a day) I'm loving it.
I got a bit of a shock when I went into the toilet in the airport and there was no toilet. It took me about 5 seconds to work out that it was a squat toilet. I'm getting used to the heat again, having to bargain everytime I want to buy something, tiny, dark, hot and sweaty fan cooled rooms (a complete shock after Oz and NZ), how friendly everyone is, having to carry my own personal toilet roll in my bag, long arduous bus journeys, the lovely white sandy beaches and crystal clear, warm water, precarious motor bike rides, ever so cheap books, cheap and yummy food, cheap beer, cheap internet (when it works)
So Kuala Lumpur was big and hot and humid. I spent 2 days wandering around. Spent a large amount of my time in shopping malls just to get out of the heat (as it seems a lot of Malaysians do). Went to the Petronas Towers. They were, until the beginning of 2003, the tallest buildings in the world, since then a building, I think in Taipei, is now bigger. Still it was pretty impressive, I took the free trip up to the bridge which was only a third of the way up, but still fairly high.
I ate in Chinatown, took a walk round Merdeka Sqaure where the Malaysians celebrated their independence from the Brits back in '59. I went on the monorail round the city and then I'd had enough and decided to head north where it was a little bit cooler...
(Sorry no USB port at the mo, will update photos soon)

Flying over the west coast of Australia
. The only thing I still can't get used to is the attention I attract from all the asian men, especially travelling on my own, but hey that's travelling in Asia.So Kuala Lumpur was big and hot and humid.
