Hello everyone, I'm now in a little place called Pai, right in the very north of Thailand. It's very peaceful and not a lot is happening, which is nice. I spent a few more days in Chiang Mai just relaxing, wandering around the town and sampling some Thai nightlife. I enjoyed a night out at one of the local discos, drank some Scotch Whisky Thai style and rode around town on the back of a motorbike before deciding to head north.

The bus journey up here was an experience. I had decided to take the local bus rather than the tourist bus, as not only was it cheaper, but I thought it might be more interesting and interesting it certainly was. I got on the bus quite early and managed to get a seat. By the time the bus was ready to go the aisle was full of sacks, rucksacks and other assorted parcels. When the seats ran out people started sitting on the floor and hanging out the doors. It reminded me of the Weird Al Song 'Another one Rides the Bus'. Four hours later after lots of hairpin bends we eventually arrived in Pai. There were 5 of us who had been squeezed into the back of the bus together and we eventually ended up in Bebop, the local pub/nightclub where I had my first experience of Thai Whisky, which seemed an excellent idea at the time! I got a ride home again on a motorbike stopping off to visit a lovely waterfall on the way.

I'm just relaxing today before leaving tomorrow on a 65km river rafting trip to Mae Hong Som tomorrow before flying back to Chiang Mai, from there I'm not sure where I'm heading.

I've been reading a great book which I thoroughly recommend to anyone travelling to Thailand, even if you're not, it's still worth a read. It's called Thai Lite and is by S Tsow. It gives an excellent and often hilarious insight to the Thai culture and language, amongst another things.
