Today I took the train from Hiroshima to Miyajimaguchi and from there I took the boat across to Miyajima Island. There was a large shrine, the Itsukushima Shrine, which was in the water. When the tide is in it looks like the shrine is floating on the water. I was lucky because the tide was in when I got there. There were also a lot of wild deer just wandering around when I got off the boat. There was a hill on the island, Mount Misen, which I decided not to climb as my legs were still protesting after climbing Fuji. I cheated and took the cable car to almost the top and then walked the 20 minutes to the summit. The view was amazing. There was also a lot of wild monkeys at the top of the hill, the little baby ones were really cute. I kept bumping into everyone that I'd seen the day before at the Memorial Museum. Unfortunately I couldn't spend as much time as I wanted to because I had to head back and catch the train to Kyoto.
I got to Kyoto and thought I'd be smart and just walk to the Youth Hostel - it didn't look that far on the map. For some reason the Japanese maps that the tourist board issue are upside down compared to the maps in the stations - very confusing. I ended up getting totally lost, but a nice young japanese man helped me out. It was lights out at 10.30pm in the hostel and I wasn't complaining as I was exhausted.
