Back to Vegas
Trip Start May 11, 2005
320Trip End Ongoing
The first week I was back, Chelise and I were invited to one of her workmates birthday parties. This party was unique because it involved a rented party bus which included a dance floor, speakers, disco ball and all the booze you could shake a stick at. We spent the night driving the strip, burning up the dance floor and seeing the major sites of Las Vegas Boulevard.
Another thing that occupied much of my time in Vegas was the Hash House Harriers. It occupied so much of my time that it has its own entry after this one that explains what it is, where we went and why we did it.
Since my jobs were exactly working out I had alot of free time to go hiking in Vegas and explore the desert. Our roommate Rachel who has 2 dogs (both pretty worthless) decided to get another one that was German shepherd Great Dane mix. Her name is Molly and she was my hiking and running partner. As you can see from the pictures I've posted she was my outdoors companion. There are so many hikes I did in Nevada and Arizona (20 mins away) that I won't bother with the details of each but I did enjoy the desert and the wild burros and coyotes that we would occasionally see. Chelise lucked out and scored a GPS unit from backpacker magazine. She was reading the magazine and saw that they needed people to map out hikes for them. She gave them a call and 2 weeks later BAM! We had our own GPS unit! She has since used the unit to map out hikes for the magazine and they are online at Backpacker.com.
Another side trip I was able to do was to drive to Flagstaff Arizona where a Carrie lives (friend from Germany) it was nice to catch up with her and go snowboarding at the local mountain. I was even able to catch up with a college roommate Joel and his wife Celina when they passed through Vegas. As is the tradition with most friends that come to Vegas we caught up over a few beers and wondering miles around the Vegas strip.
Between Chelise and Rachel's (our roommate) job I was always getting invited to some sort of party or sponsored event. As you can see from the pictures one of the major events was a huge sock hop. The event was complete with roller-skating waitress, classic cars and bebop music and dancing.
There is so much to see in Vegas and I would occasionally wonder the strip and try to capture it with the camera but there is so much more to Vegas than just the strip. Red rock canyon is an awesome place to hike as well the Colorado River which runs through Nevada to Arizona. I also ended up taking alot of side trips while living in Vegas, snowboarding in Utah, family vacation in Cancun, trips to San Diego and Bass Lake, hiking in Death Valley, flying to San Fransisco for bay to breakers and jetting off to New Orleans to see some Garmish friend get married...... check out the pictures!
