On Golden Pond with Bikers
Trip Start May 11, 2005

We finally arrived at Pat's dads house where we got busy planning the next leg of our trip. Since Pat owned a huge canoe we decided to go float a river. While we were trying to figure out the logistics of the trip we could not help but notice the constant sound of motorcycles roaring by. Turns out it was Laconia bike week. This is the oldest, longest running motorcycle event in the country with attendance between 100,000-400,000. Obviously we had to check it out. Basically it boils down to tons of bikes, fair food, packed bars, classic rock and biker gangs. Hell's Angels, the Outlaws, the Pagans and the Bandidos were all in attendance. We spent the night checking out all the sights and sneaking into a bar/concert tent which was staffed by the most scantly clad college chicks
One last thing we did was take Pat's boat out on Squam lake. This is the lake that On Golden Pond was filmed on. Pat's dad told us he had sat on a dock and watched Jane Fonda practice dives for a scene. The lake is dotted with little tree filled islands and there are underwater hazards everywhere. Pat and Dave water skied while the guy with no ACL (that's me) drank beer. Not a bad trade off..................
Once we figured out what river to float we headed over to Pat's childhood house to pick up the canoe. This house is dubbed Crispy House because it burned to the ground when Pat was in college. Thankfully no one was hurt but they lost the house and everything in it! The only thing left is the basement which is where the cat hid during the fire. They found it alive in a puddle of water in a depression in the concrete. The next day the cat got hit by a car..... ha! just kidding it lived happily ever after. Off to Maine!
