The whole purpose of the road trip was for Pat to get to Montpelier and watch his brother graduate from high school.   Upon arrival it felt as though we had accomplished our road trip mission.   Vermont's Capital city is an incredibly small, but a very picturesque New England town.
The day we arrived we went to Pat's mom's house to have a little graduation party for his brother Casey.  It was here that I got to meet the rest of Pat's family (father, mother, sister, brother).   It was also here that Pat's mom decided that Dave and I were "derelict" (insert Zoolander joke here) and bad influences on her son. It was good to be hated again by another friend's family, it just like my high school days.
Pat's dad, on the other hand, was great.   We stayed at his house and he showed us around town.  He even came out the local bar with us.   Since Montpelier is so small there really is no security around the capital.   One day while Pat was at the graduation ceremony, Dave and I decide to toss the fribsee on the capital's lawn.   It was a perfect spot on an ideal sunny day.  While we were tossing the disc we noticed more and more hippies gathering on the lawn tossing discs also.  Turns out that ultimate frisbee is a weekly event on the capital's lawn.  Thinking of ourselves as pretty good athletes, Dave and I decided to jump in on the action.  Being a little cocky, we were thinking that we might dominate the game.  Turns out that Vermont hippies are all super athletes and their organic, vegan diets give them superior speed and strength.   Our nutritional regime of beer and Taco Bell somehow did not help us and those hippies made us look like clown shoes.   Lesson learned!
The rest of our time in Montpelier was spent driving a half hour North and playing frisbee golf. One day we got so into it we played 72 holes!  We ruled that if  the frisbee was not thrown past the women's tees on the opening drive, the player had to throw the second shot with his shorts at his ankles.  This rule combined with a 30 pack of beer made for some photo's that I wont be posting!
One last thing we did is the Ben and Jerry's factory tour.   Since this famous ice cream is made in Vermont we had to check it out.  We even got to try a new flavor they have not started to sell yet.....Cheesecake Brownie!  it was delicious!
