Pulling into the harbor of Cartagena Colombia was a bit of a shock to us all.  The city looked big, modern and clean.   I don't know what I was expecting but the other backpackers were similarly amazed.   It felt so good to to get off the boat and take a shower.  I had not showered in 7 days and it felt amazing!   We all booked into a hostel and set off  the next few days to explore the city.
As you can tell from the pictures Cartagena has really nice colonial buildings and an old medieval wall the runs around the old city.  It was really nice place to explore.
On our way to Tagaga ( another city 6 hours north) me and some friends from the boat decided to take a dip in a mud volcano.  It was quite the experience.   The mud pit felt bottomless and once in it was very hard to stay upright.  There is guy to help you in, a mud massage guy,  a camera guy, a guy that carries your shoes and finally there are women that are waiting in the lake to help clean you.  These women vigorously rub the mud off you, sticking their fingers deep in your ears, pulling off your board shorts and pulling off girls bikini tops.  I was warned from other travelers so when they started pulling my shorts off I went with it and squatted in the water.  It was quite a show!
