Leon is touted as a nice colonial town in Nicaragua.  I see no reason to go to this town unless you are there to volcano board.  The town is average at best but sledding down a volcano is definitely unique.   The volcano sledding is one of the main reasons people come to this town.  The price is pretty steep but then again where else in the world is this possible.....
So with that in mind, Tim, Sarah and I set out to sled this volcano.   This is the only privately owned volcano in  the whole world and its 2 years over due for a massive explosion.  Climbing to the top only took 50 mins and the surrounding landscape was beautiful.   We even climbed down into the crater to check out the view.
This Volcano is also famous for the land speed record on a mountain bike. The same grade we sled down was also used for the speed record.  It was set by some french guy before he wiped out and broke over 10 bones.. a) street kids

. anyways we were told that if we kept the sled straight and never used the brakes we could reach speeds of 60 kph.....  Speed is fun but the faster I went the more out of control I felt so at a certain point I put on the brakes ( feet on the rocks) and I did a couple of flips before I was back in control.  Tim on the other hand decided "it was a good day to die"  and went streaking down the mountain before he had the mother of all wipe outs!  Not only did he lose vast amounts of skin...his man bag came open and spewed out his money, ipod, journal, cell phone and various other things all over the mountains.  He was like a human pinata...
We all had a good time and by the time the tour got back to the hostel they had king sized mojitos waiting for us.
