The area of Morocco that Casablanca is in has been conquered by many people over the years and even recently was rocked by suicide bombers. We had to go through Casablanca on our way out of the country and we had a 5 hour wait till our connecting bus so...we went to see the world´s 3rd largest mosque and the biggest we have ever seen. Built in 1993, they spent 1/2 a billion on it, levelling some slums in the process and not giving the occupants any compensation. We had the pleasure of walking by these slums on the way. We made it in time for the afternoon call to prayer, but weren´t allowed inside. The minaret is the highest in the world (210m) and the mosque can hold 25 000 people inside and
80 000 outside. Casablanca seemed like quite a modern city.
