I love beach life! I am in Sihanoukville, on Cambodia's southern coast (Gulf of Thailand). After arriving I went straight to the beach (Occheuteal)...it was a lot nicer than I expected. I got a comfy beach chair, wooden lounge chairs with pillows and umbrella and I didn't have to pay for it...well I did buy a drink though which was ridiculously cheap. The only downside to beach life here is the children harassing you to buy their wares. I did end up talking to some of the children (their English is amazing) and one little girl was making custom silk thread bracelets so I got one made of 2 different shades of blue. I also got my legs threaded (yes they do everything on this beach).

One moment that was truly heartwrenching for me was when a little boy who was so tiny he could barely see over my chair came up to me and said yum yum, it took me a minute to realize he was referring to the half eaten mango I had bought from a fruit lady earlier that day that now lay discarded at the side of my chair Down time at the beach

. I gave it to him and he ran off smiling.

Dinner that night was fabulous. At night the beach bars turn into these great BBQ's on the beach with fresh seafood. It was great the reastaurant was like a huge beach hut lined with mini lights and ambient music, with the waves crashing it was just perfect. Unfortunately the night was cut short by the rain.

The second day I went out on a small fishing boat to go snorkelling and to the different islands. The first stop was near a reef for snorkelling but after being warned about the sea urchins and sightings of jelly fish not many people wanted to be in the water too long. Then we went to Bamboo Island, it was fabulous, with near empty beaches sprinkled with the odd backpacker, a few beach huts against a jungle backdrop, it is the deserted island of my dreams. The water was warm and beautiful and I could have stayed in it all day, though it was the saltiest water I've ever been in,  you could basically just float without even trying. Then the boat drivers prepared a barbeque right on the beach of delicious grilled barricuda and fresh fruit for dessert. It was such a wonderful day!

Next up Vietnam!
