After the bustling capital of Santiago it was time to head south to the lovely little town of Pucon in the majestic Lake District of Chile, full of beautiful lakes as the name implies and snowy peaks. Pucon, an adventure sports mecca was strangely quite a relaxing experience for me. Yes the taskmaster in me decided it was time for a break. Therefore I opted not to partake in the main attraction here which is climbing Villarrica volcano. It was a tough decision not to do it but instead I went to the beach (yes I´m surprised too). The beach was on Lago Villarrica with kayaks and sailboats and areas for swimming (it was quite cold...brr), this coupled with the surrounding scenery reminded me of being up north. I loved it!!!. The beach though was a black beach, which meant volcanic ash instead of sand. While it looked neat it was ridiculously hot which meant tender tootsies ouch! It was a gorgous day filled with sunshine.
At night I went to the thermal baths outside of town which was quite nice, Not as decadent as the ones in Costa Rica but possibly more relaxing due to the lovely forrested scenery and running river nearby, plus it wasn´t all touristy and built up, just some simple pools among the rocks, quite enjoyable. After just spending the days realxing in nature I am refreshed and ready for anything. I also have to comment on the cute little log hostel I stayed in...it had bunk beds yay!!! So exciting, felt like I was at summer camps. There was also a huge street party while we were in Pucon to celebrate the town´s 125th birthday...lots of people and fun music.
