Well here I am finally!!! I arrived late yesterday afternoon after flying first class from Buffalo, yup thatīs right not sure how but iīm not complaining it was comfy. The hotel shuttle got me from the airport and it was about an hour drive during which I carried on a conversation in spanish with the driver the entire time...yay me!!! whew it was exhausting! The drive into Antigua was abslutely picturesque itīs an old colonial city with cobblestoned streets and beautiful old churhes...not to mention it is surrounded by four volcanoes. Once I got settled in I went off in search of beans, naturally. I found this great little restaurant that had an outdoor square courtyard and flowers and a fountain and all these little white lights (mom you would love it) where I had some fantastial beans and the most delicious coffee. The food here so far is phenomenal so fresh and tasty (no bread though dad, only tortillas). At night the city is so beautiful...thereīs a central park that has a water fountain and lots of vegetation...and at night it gets all lit up like lots of things here with all these little white lights First Taste of Beans

. And also thereīs an old cathedral on one side...so beautiful.

Today I went exploring...after consulting with the hotel as to where the Iglesia y Convento de le Recoleccion were b/c theyīre the greatest ruins in the city and told they were only 2 blocks away... i set off (really they should have told me like 10)...after walking 4 blocks i came upon some ruins so i went in but they were quite small so i was little disappointed...however, after walking another few blocks i found them and wow....they were amazing...larger than life coupled with the background of the volcanoes was truly breathtaking. Turns out the earlier ruins was once a school in the 1700īs. I also went to some beautful old churches. And once again found myself eating beans for lunch...although they werenīt as good as the ones from last night. It also seemed kinda strange to be sitting outside in shorts and a tee drinking cold beer with wreaths and poinsettas everywhere. Well Iīm off to do some more exploring and tomorrow I meet up with my group...
