At 9.30 we went for a drive up to Cromer, a seaside resort with a pier and walked along the narrow streets. We drove through Sheringham and Wells-next-Sea and through Burnam Market back to Fakenham. The villages are beautiful, all built of flint. Narrow lanes everywhere. Lovely streams with swans, some streams rushing underneath buildings. We drove through the tiny village of Great Snoring and Little Snoring and arrived back at 11.30 am. Phillipa, Bob, Ian and Bruce were there. We had a magnificent lunch of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and rice pudding and fruit. I could hardly move afterwards. Phillipa and Bob drove us to their home at Swanton Morley and then through lovely villages to Norwich. I loved Norwich - saw where we stayed in 1972. Visited the Castle which is now a museum and then the Cathedral which is Norman and has a beautiful stained glass window full of action. Cathedral surrounded by park and cobbled courtyard. Drove up Elm Hill Street. Gorgeous shopping cobbled street. Arrived back at Sharrington and had salad for tea. I half packed the bags. Ian and Bruce are gorgeous.
Sharrington - 22/3/82 - beautiful warm sunny day
Got up early and drove down to Ely Cathedral - very different and nice with painted ceiling and lantern in ceiling. Saw Olive Cromwell's house.
Drove down to Cambridge - beautiful city and I love it. Walked down to river and bought lunch and ate it by river in park opposite. Had lots of ducks we were feeding and they were fighting. Sat in the sun for ages. So peaceful and beautiful.
Opposite was gorgeous house built in the water. Hired bikes all afternoon and rode around. Beautiful little streets with little passages and lanes running everywhere between the colleges. Kings’ College beautiful. Corpus Christi College with beautiful stained glass window. Saw round church - Norman and very cute. Rode over ridges over river with willows and through parks with avenues of enormous trees and carpets of beautiful flowers. Went shopping in the market. Loved Cambridge. Drove up through little villages home. Some had lovely sign posts. Had lovely dinner and played cards.
