After breakfast drove around city. Castle very impressive sitting high on a rock. Main street very long and overlooks botanic gardens and castle. Scott monument very tall. Drove through Royal Mile from Castle to Holyrood Palace (belongs to Queen). In old town and lovely buildings, cobbled streets and buildings have lots of turrets. Drove across Firth of Forth bridge suspension bridge - 15 p toll very long and beside it railway bridge. Drove up motorway to Perth. All around mountains covered with snow. Drove past Loch Leven and saw ruined castle in middle in which Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned. Drove through Perth which is on nice river of Tay. Drove up to Blairgowrie - lovely countryside and then up through the Glenshees - windy road and beautiful mountains. Arrived at ski fields - millions of people, cars and coaches. Good snowfields. Everything white and very glary. Drove up to Braemar, lovely little streams and bridges and beautiful homes which look like castles with turrets.
Braemar lovely little town. Drove along beautiful stretch up to Balmoral Castle. Got a good view of castle from high bend in road before it. Really beautiful with towers and turrets. Has River Dee running in front and surrounded by pine forests. Snow everywhere. Very secluded with high fence on road and police signs saying, "No stopping". Beautiful countryside. Drove back near ski fields and played in snow throwing snowballs at each other - nearby huge mountain covered in snow with waves of snow hanging over precariously. Arrived back in Blairgowrie and bought pub lunch. 3pm went and got our chalet. Set in 2 acres of parkland near town centre. Wooden chalet with veranda and all built in pine. Own bathroom, bedroom, kitchen and lounge with TV. Went and did some food shopping - 8 pounds and watched ice skating championships. Given all our skiing brochure. Can't wait until tomorrow. Read until 4 am.
