The outback capital of Queensland wasn't exactly the major city we had expected. No Mc Donald’s…but there were a few nice shops along the central road in town. That was our first stop for some much needed retail therapy. Kids got themselves a few typical Australian riding boots, ready for the rest of the trip through the outback. The main attractions in Longreach are the Stockman’s Hallof Fame and the Q.A.N.T.A.S. museum’s. Whilst 2 museum’s in one day is a bit much, they were very nice. The Stockman gives a fantastic overview of the life from the early settlers through to modern outback life. The Qantas museum handles the history of the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services which started off in Winton which is the next town after Longreach. The kids enjoyed the latter one more for obvious reasons. The day was finished off by a visit to the Rusty show. The kids had a ball there looking at a few sheep dogs in action, couple of pythons which could be handled by the kids, the whip cracker and a burger and sausage bbq to top it all off. Next stop Bladensburg national park near Winton.
