Had group photo taken this morning all in our Tour de Loire gear. The hotel owners agreed to take the photos. What a delightful couple they were - so obliging - nothing was a problem.
The cyclists then set off for an 'easy' 33km ride to Chinon. We left a little later going via the patisserie shop for our baguettes and other treats and the supermarket to stock up on picnic lunch ingredients. Traveled to the very small village of Usses where there is a chateau on which the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty was based. Didn't go in just took photos and had a coffee before heading off to Chinon. We passed through very picturesque countryside and quaint little villages.
Eventually found hotel after our satnav 'Ken' tried to take us down some very narrow one way streets! Our hotel is a re-furnished 19th century mansion.
Luggage hasn't arrived and rooms aren't ready so we had our picnic lunch in the hotel garden. Baguettes, ham, rabbit terrine, cheeses etc - another great lunch.  Rooms ready just before 2pm - have a lovely room overlooking the garden on the first floor. Our bathroom is huge and has recently been  re-modelled.
Still no bags so went for a quick walk around the town including getting the lift up to Chateau Chinon which is only partially still standing. Took a couple of photos but didn't go in before returning to our hotel for a little siesta. Col wasn't feeling well so he slept for two hours while I completed yesterday's blog entry.
Bags arrived about 5pm which is unusual as they have been in each of hotels when we have arrived on previous days.
Feeling re-freshed after our rest we got changed for dinner and went to the 6pm briefing for tomorrow's ride to Saumur our final destination.
We then walked down the most historic street in Chinon, Rue Voltaire, with its half timbered houses and where Joan of Arc came to acknowledge Charles VII.  Chinon was home to the Plantagenets in the Middle Ages and original buildings still exist.
Dinner tonight was another amazing meal. We went to a restaurant L'Annes 30 recommended by the waiter at last nights restaurant. Had 3 courses tonight with the best Rose we have tasted so far. See photos for details. Our French menu reading is improving as is our appreciation of the tastes and presentation of the food.
Lights out after I add the photos.
