Where I stayed
Its a massive city which sprawls in a block formation forever, constantly peppered with shopping mall after shopping mall. Apart from shopping there is fairly little to do as a tourist there, I spent one morning on a 'fun' island on the south coast where I went to an aquarium which isn't as good as the one in Edinbrough. There is a night safari which I didn't go because people kept complaining that at night the animals were asleep so you didn't see much.
I Spent most my time walking the street, looking at the shops and just hanging out. The prices are comparable to the UK, with finding a beer for under £3 a real result, cloths and electronics didn't seem cheap either
One of the cooler things I did was go up a sky scrapper to a top level bar and get a drink. When I say get a drink, I let everyone else by a drink however I didn't feel like splashing out £9 on half a pint of beer when money is becoming extremely tight (It now seems silly to spent £115 in the shops but I did need a pair of shorts and sandals).
The food was good to great, I had a few noodle broths which always go down well, one or two things were a bit to heavy for me, swimming in vinegar and soy, but overall I ate very well for very good prices. One thing that didn't sit well was chickens feet, me and another german shared a pair, they were braised in some sort of soy concoction which would have been nice but it basically meant you are eating soggy chicken skin. I also experienced the famous durians, which for those of you who don't know is a fruit that stinks, like proper smelly stink. I can't say I enjoyed the taste of durians, it had that sort of acid you find in onion and garlic, although we did buy a cheap one at $5 (£2,50) which is meant to be not great, they went up to $15 (£7.50) so perhaps that might have been nicer. Im currently having the worst meal of my trip on my flight to OZ, a cheese and tomato sandwich and bottle of water for £6.60, the cheese is fake cheese and the tomato is as hard as teeth
The hostel I was in was amazing, called the rucksack in, it was like being at home but better. Free computers and wifi, DVD's, Wii, free unlimited toast (peanut butter and jam) tea coffee etc. That place was one of the best things about Singapore.
Turned out to be a decent length didn't it. Probably because i have no screen to watch on this flight and I need to be looking at something at all times, even if its the text I'm typing.
