- 1,000 Dong for the toilet bowl. Alright.
- 1,000 Dong extra for rationed toilet paper. Fine, I brought my own.
- You want a door with that? That’ll be an extra 1,000 Dong for the stall with a door that closes and a toilet seat. Premium!
Noteworthy birthday surprise, courtesy of Manu and my friend Stine back home (see the very first entry here to meet her): A well-planned, guerilla-style kidnap :)
For Hoi An, we had booked beds in a cheap hotelhttp://www.hoianriverresort.com/). You’d think we have never seen a pool or nicely folded towel. By the time we get to the private beach, the sun is already cooling, because we spent a few hours looking at our beautiful room and bathroom, checking out the complimentary toiletries, drinking coffee on our river-view terrace in our undies (no dorm mates to worry about) and lounging on the fluffy bed in crisp sheets. A few months of budget travel will do that to you. Excited like a kid, I am looking forward to taking as many showers as I can justify for one day and waking for my birthday in a boutique-style hotel room. Sweet!
The next day, we stretch out every second before a late check-out and I enjoy the best massage I have had in SEA, yet again, courtesy of the ladies. Then sadly, but happily, we are off to town, back to our cheap hotels. Hoi An is lovely, I could have easily spent a lot more time here. Probably a good thing we didn't, because the one thing it is most famous for is tailor-made clothes. For under $150 I have 2 pairs of sandals custom made, 3 shorts, 2 pairs of casual pants, 2 skirts, 2 dresses and 1 top plus 1 existing skirt fixed. This town could be my milk and honey land. I must return one day. With a full wallet and empty suit case.
