There is little to report on this stop as I am merely using it to re-organize myself, catch up on blog entries, sort through and back up photos and work on my alcohol tolerance level. Staying at Vu's is an absolute treat. Not only does he live in a fabulous place, but he's a lovely host, making sure, I am never without a drink in hand, the second he comes home. We even took a bottle of wine to the foot massage. Watch out Vu! I might end up moving in for good ;) And to mix it up a little on the culinary end, I indulge on Lebanese food from a place called Beirut as often as I can
Well, it would be if it wasn't for that annoying allergic reaction I had to my malaria pills. Ugly skin rash everywhere, including on my scalp and soles of feet. Gross! So instead of moving on to Cambodia, where I wanted to plant myself at a beach and wait for Manu to re-join, I am in and out of the hospital, waiting for test results and the rash to disappear. The good news is I did not catch malaria. The bad news is, it definitely was an allergic reaction to my drugs (which I had no issues with the last few times I took them in the past three years). My options are not fun: Either switch prevention pills to a product you can't even get in the West anymore. In 25% of cases, it has the lovely side effect of night mares, depression and so on. Option 2 is no prevention at all, other than dousing myself in bug spray, long sleeves and so forth. I hate bug spray. And I am here because I don't want to be wearing long covered up clothing. Not happy! So eventually, I decide to stick around malaria-free Thailand instead until Manu rejoins, so she can nurse me if I fall sick.
With that, I embark on the arduous task of choosing an island. Who knew that could be so hard. After hours of online research and chasing friends for recommendations, I take the easy route. I decide to go to Koh Chang again to start with, because I already know how to get there and my way around. From there, I want to hop over to Koh Mak, an island described as one that most Thai people even don't know of. Done!
