I went to the Italian restaurant on Tuesday night and it was so-so. The menu wasn't very exciting; I decided to have 2 appetizers. It's a restaurant that people are excited about in a town of 63.000 and think that apple and brie in a salad is quite an accomplishment hahaha.
Before I went to the restaurant I wanted to take Johannah a bit of a run at the beach since it rained all day and as soon as we arrived there it took about 5 minutes when it started again. But not before I got in a little chit chat with a local and his dog and when I told him about the place that I was that afternoon and the dog was welcome, he didn't know about that place and in return he gave me a tip on a bar that just opened not too long ago and that they might be ok with dogs too.
So after the restaurant I decided to try it out. The bar was pretty empty, 2 peeps on the far end of the bar. The bartender was not too nice but she allowed Johannah is and that was good enough for me. She had her dog there too, a small one and Johannah used all the tricks out of her book to get him to plat but no dice, he wasn't up for it. So Johannah did her own thing, saying hello to patrons when they come in and lay down in the middle of the path (of course). When the bartender heard that I'm from Holland, she told me that the other person on the other side of the bar was also Dutch. His name is Dennis and he's married with an American woman and they live right around the corner. I chatted with some people on my end of the bar and then for a while with Dennis and his friend before calling it a night.
Wednesday:I took a nice stroll with Johannah, I had lunch at Becky's Diner, a local spot. There were 3 fishermen sitting behind me and let me tell you: They were the most amazing fishermen in conversation that I've ever heard. Reciting martin Luther King, all kinds of quotes from books and movies, very profound. You would never guess. Had some really good fish chowder (not weird fish) too.
I ended up at the coffee shop for a while and then I was going to stop by the bar from last night. The bartender is very rude (uses the "f" word every 2 ½ seconds for no reason, rude to costumers, throwing names) but it was dog friendly and the night before her dog and mine got along just fine. This evening it was different. I took his tennis ball and he got very upset and so Johannah got upset too and had to split them up. Then a bit later, Johannah was a goofball and tried to encourage him to play, he was not in the mood and got angry (little dog syndrome, the start yakking/barking) and when a bigger dog reacts the to it, they always feel sorry for the small one, even though that one started it. So the bartender told me to leave and I was happy to comply. I asked her if her dog was fine and she didn't ask how mine was, that's how it is most of the time with small dogs and their owners. So we cut the night short and went home.
Thursday, October 30th.
No call from the Dennis and his wife to see if I wanted to join them for the evening to see the band that he mentioned soI decided to make it a full fledged lazy day. Doing a whole lotta nothing! Feels good not to have to chit chat/make new pals/meet new people for a day, just nothing. Watch stupid TV and hang out with Ms. J So that is what I'm reporting for this day. See ya tomorrow; we're skipping yet another town...

Show sucked!
It was great to meet you and your dog! I did go to the show, and looked around to see (waarom ben ik eigenlijk in het Engels aan het schrijven, bedenkt ik me ineens...).
