Where I stayed
Geneva has about 13.000 residents. The center of town is very small, couple of streets with old style homes. It's located on Seneca Lake , upstate New York and the there a few of these "slivers" of lakes therefore is called Finger Lake Region. There are a lot of wineries surrounding the lake, its beautiful area. I thought to take a bit of time off. hahaha
I've been driving so much, constantly looking ahead where the nest stop will be, make arrangements, checking online, update this blog etc. This seems to be the perfect place to take a break.
On Tuesday we had a late start and the afternoon I had lunch in a little tavern in the center or town (you can't call it downtown, it's too small for that) and I ordered a cup of soup ( I wanted to check out another place too so i didn't want to load up) Now I understand why the waitress looked a certain way at me when she asked: " Is this all for you?" I had THE smallest cup of soup in my life!(Spicy zucchini soup with sausage, it was very good). It had about 5 baby spoons, hahaha. When I asked for the check and she asked me how it was, I told her that the soup was very good and that it was the smallest cup of soup I'd ever had, she: " Oooohh, nooo, would you like another one?"
After that we drove along the lake, did some wine tasting, the wines were not very good, maybe 1 Riesling and 1 Syrah made me want to check the label but that's about it. all right but nothing to write home about (no pun intended). Then back into town, scoping for a locals' hang out. And I found it all right. Pinky's on Castle Street.
Just about 4 people at the bar. Savvy, the bartender (real name is Rick), Chuck and Dan, couple of regulars there. Started to talk with them and Chuck asked me if I thought about going to Nova Scotia, I love to but it's a looooong drive. He told me that there is a ferry going from Portland, Maine and I had Portland on my list of places so I wanted to check this out the next day. I hung out there for a while, nice to chit chat, and Dan invited me to come to the place where he's working, an Italian-Club-kind-of-restaurant, still not sure what it exactly is but I said that I would try to make it after bringing Johannah home. She had been in the car for a while. When I got back to the motel I got lazy and wanted to stay with my girl. I called Pinky's and told Savvy and he asked if I could come back the next day and stay a bit longer.
Wednesday we went to a state park by the lake to take Johannah out for a long run, she deserved it, the day before it was raining pretty much the whole day. After that, I went to the Red Brick Tavern to update the blog for a bit, had lunch there, drank about a gallon of tea, had salad (yeay, a salad!) and then returned to Pinky's. Chuck was there again as well as Dan. I met Patty, the bartender for that night. Now she's great. It's like talking to somebody that I've known for a long time. A real person and a real sweetheart. Savvy and I danced a bit. He's not a good leader, maybe which was because of all the Milwaukee light beer with ice that he drank, which is strange because it's (A)light beer (B) in a glass with a bunch ice, I don't get the ice-in-beer-thing. And I met some other people, had fun and then Patty drove me home, we ended up having a night cap across the street from the motel, a place that I saw from the first day I arrived but there was a reason why I didn't go in there, even though it was so convenient across. Now I know why (my instinct can be spot, not always). It didn't have a nice vibe so the night cap was short.
Thursday I started to feel a wee bit off, tickle in the throat, a bit shivery. So I only went to the park with Johannah again so she could get her groove on and then back to the motel. I promised to come back to Pinky's for a little bit, Chuck would be here with his wife Teresa and I was looking forward to meet her. They play a certain card game every Thursday. I scraped myself off the bed and hauled it back because I promised. There was nobody there but Patty. I drank about 10 cups of tea with lemon and then decided to leave.
This was one of those nights where you don't know how you will feel the next day. You're gonna you feel all right or you going to feel like sh*t.
Since I¡¦m leaving tomorrow, I hope the first one will make the appearance.
With love to Geneva, beautiful area, want to come back here (too)
