I just arrived in the dark in upstate New York. It's a small town, Geneva and I'm looking forward to see it tomorrow when it's light. We've been on the road since 10.30 this morning and its 9 p.m. now, long haul. We left for the Canadian border that is in a tunnel, underneath the river between Detroit and Windsor (Canadian side). The border patrol was nice and I was curious what she would say about the dog thing. When she gave me to go ahead and I asked her about the issue, she told me that didn't know much about it (!) and that Johannah clearly looked like a Boxer to her and that it should be fine. The "should be fine" didn't ease my concern so I stayed with the revised plan.
The drive was pretty boring. 2 ½ hours to London, onto Paris, Hamilton ( I could see Toronto from there) and then a bow south to Niagara Falls. It's like with so many things you see on TV. It seems so huge in pictures, movies, docu's etc. and then you walk towards it and it's not as high as I expected. But nonetheless, very impressive. As you know by now, I hate tourist traps and this is no difference. They milk this "attraction" like any other one so I wasn't planning on sticking around too long. Walked to it, took a few picture with Johannah in front of it and got out.
After crossing the border again, I had no clue as what direction I was going. I contemplated driving to New York City, my good friend Rob was there for a visit from Holland until the 22nd but I would skip a lot of places that I wanted to visit so I had so see him when I visit Holland next time. I blindly picked a motel a few hours from Buffalo New York, it was going to get dark soon and I don't like driving in the dark, I also don't like to drive when it's getting dark, especially in places where deer can cross the road. They come out at sunset so I wanted to get a place to stay and take it from here. Geneva seemed a good place to go, a little town for a change.
