I am now about to enjoy my second New Year in a row outside the UK though this time in South rather than Central America. Last year I was in Monteverde, Costa Rica. This year I find myself in Bariloche, Argentina. Naturally the milestone has had me contemplating the past year, its events, changes, passings and developments. I'm certainly better equipped to be in a Spanish-speaking country thanks to the study and classes of the past year in terms of language and far, far better equipped than I was in terms of dancing thanks to my forays into salsa.  Bariloche is like Switzerland in miniature complete with an alpine-inspired central square and photo opportunities for the tourists with St. Bernard dogs and their puppies.  I was actually quite happy to get here and relax, but I am not going to stay long. Just overnight to enjoy New Year´s Eve in a place that looks like Europe, but is not with a good crew from Canada, the States, Brazil and Holland and then hopefully I will not be too hungover to catch my bus to Osorno, Chile.

Postscript:  I made it to the bus station despite staying up past 4am.  Pasha (yes, they have Pasha here too) was actually closed so we ended up in their version of an Irish pub, Wilkenny and somehow got selected for the VIP section too. Great fun, far too much alcohol and even a bit of salsa with the two Dutch girls which left a few bemused faces (ie. English guy knows salsa - go figure!).  All good and very glad I did it. Hectic journey on though as I could not book my bus tickets for Chile and arrived at the bus station in Bariloche with just short of enough cash to get the ticket there from Osorno to Santiago sorted.  More in the next blog.
